ASMOSIA XIII International Conference

It is our privilege to invite you on behalf of the ASMOSIA Executive Committee to join us in the 13th ASMOSIA meeting which will take place in Vienna, Austria between September 19 and 23, 2022 with a full-day after conference tour on September 24.

The topics of the conference will deal with the basic theme of ASMOSIA, which is the investigation of all kinds of stones in the interface of archaeology and natural sciences. Besides the exchange of experience, and knowledge the conference intends to demonstrate progress and results in our field during the last years. In this sense the meeting shall offer a platform for discussion and reunion of the ASMOSIA “family”.
The sessions will encompass provenance and use of marbles and other stones, quarrying techniques and transport, weathering problems and restoration, and several more. As the conference will take place at the external frontier of the Roman Empire north of the Alps we will organize a session on The Production and trade of marble and other stones in the Alpine and Danube provinces – regional resources and Mediterranean imports. Particular focus will be on poster sessions to these topics, planned as a separate program item without any parallel sessions.

The venue will be the Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien and its Ephesos Museum in the very centre of Vienna. The location offers elegant surroundings with an appropriate infrastructure in an imperial atmosphere.
